WEBINAR: Đuro Macut Takes Helm as Serbia’s New Prime Minister

On April 30, 2025, Strategic Analysis organized the fifth online webinar this year with our Young Leaders‘ Programme members. The discussion focused on Đuro Macut, who takes the helm as Serbia’s new PM.

In April 2025, Serbia’s parliament appointed Professor Đuro Macut, a prominent endocrinologist with no political background, as the country’s new Prime Minister. He was nominated by President Aleksandar Vučić following mass protests and the resignation of former PM Miloš Vučević.

Born in Belgrade in 1963, Macut is a respected expert in reproductive medicine, a long-time professor of internal medicine at the University of Belgrade, and author of over 140 scientific papers.

His appointment signals continuity in the current political direction, as many ministers from the previous cabinet retained their positions. Macut has expressed a desire to end protests, maintain economic stability, and uphold a budget deficit below 3% of GDP, while pursuing a balanced foreign policy toward the EU, the U.S., China, and Russia.
