Aleksandar Vučić announced on June 27, 2026, that he would resign within weeks and call early presidential and parliamentary elections. At least nominally, that ends eighteen months of the largest sustained protest movement Serbia has seen since Slobodan Milošević was overthrown in 2000. The question is whether it opens a genuine democratic renewal, or just manages a transition within the existing system.
